There are a couple of Overseas Filipino Workers in Hong Kong who lost a family member in the Philippines and yet they decided not to return fearing that they will end up getting stuck in the different quarantine measures held in the Philippines.
Some of these bereaved families simply chose to weep their grief on social media just like these two siblings who went home to the Philippines to see their dying mother only to end up stranded in a quarantine facility in Manila.
They posted their story on Facebook last May 28 saying that they are waiting for their swab test results. Unfortunately, they were not able to see their mother until she was laid to rest in her last resting place. These sisters were left without a choice but to comply or else, they will be forced to undergo another 14-day quarantine period mandated by their local officials.
Another OFW identified as Vicky R. Munar decided to grief from afar after her brother passed away due to a vehicular crash. She thought that returning home will only lead her to be stranded for a couple of weeks in quarantine facilities.
“Masakit ang loob ko at umiyak din ako pero wala akong magagawa. Umuwi ang mother ko at hanggang ngayon ay nandoon pa siya. Gusto ko rin sana kahit makipaglibing lang pero kung ginawa ko pala iyon ay baka hindi pa akonakababalik,” says Munar.
Most netizens who commented on their posts on Facebook asked why they need to stay for more than 14 days just waiting for their test results to be done and release of their certificates.
