A Chinese national was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for allegedly human trafficking and illegally recruiting Filipino workers.
The suspect, identified as Kai Kai Wang and using the alias Jackson Ong, was detained together with his secretary named June Rose Taguba De Agtaran, a Filipino.
Five women were rescued inside the office of Wang, who were applying for work abroad.
The NBI busted the operations of Wang when they went to the office of the Chinese national and pretended as applicants who are interested to work in China.
They found out that Wang was offering P40,000 salary for those applicants who are interested to work as domestic helper abroad. However, his operation is tagged as illegal because he do not have permit from the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA).
Because his agency do not have permit to operate, Wang will then send Filipino workers to China through boats coming from Vietnam.
Currently, the NBI is seeking those Filipinos who were illegally taken to China by Wang’s agency.
There are a lot of Filipino workers abroad who are victims of illegal recruitment and suffering from the bad treatment of their employers. Unfortunately, POEA cannot hold liable to these OFWs since they are not under their agency. It is best to look for the certification from POEA before transacting in a recruitment agency.
