A lot of Filipinos sees working abroad as the best way to provide a better future for their family in the Philippines, especially for their children.
Later in time, they will realize that working abroad requires a strong mind and heart. Aside from the homesickness that you will surely feel once you step foot to another country, you will also have to deal with your employers who will ask you to do things beyond your capacity.
But of course, since you already step foot in a foreign land, you will try everything to last and get the heart of your employers, that’s when unfair treatment of employers towards their household worker comes in.
Filipino domestic helpers are most prone to these kinds of unfair treatment. We all heard of news about it in social media and local news stations.
Facebook user Cj Gatz also shared several images on her Facebook account reflecting the life of Filipino domestic helpers abroad.
In the pictures, Filipina maids are being forced to do hard labor, allowing them to sleep just a few hours. In one picture, two Filipina maids can be seen sleeping on the stairs, just taking a short break after a long day of hard work.
In another picture, a woman can be seen cleaning the window of a high-rise building, something that’s totally against the law of any country.
Cj also noted that there are also Filipino maids abroad who are given very little food despite the hard work they had to go through all day.
CJ also said that some of the partners of these OFWs end up in other arms, a situation which is very common for a long distance relationship.
