Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Central Visayas (OWWA-7) announced that they are starting to accept applications for their Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) as well as for their OFW Dependents Scholarship Program (OFWDSP) for the school year 2019-2020.
According to the Acting OWWA-7 Director Mae Codilla, they are giving ample time to applicants to prepare for all the necessary requirements that is why they are already making the announcement as early as now.
These scholarship programs, the EDSP and OFWDSP, are being offered to those qualified dependents of OWWA members wanting to enroll in a four or five-year college course. As for the OFWDSP, it is only given to dependents of OFW whose monthly income is US$600 only.
“For incoming freshmen for the next school year, we are waiting for the results of the National Qualifying Examination administered by the Department of Science and Technology last Oct. 21, 2018 to identify the top 400 qualifiers nationwide who will earn a scholarship slot in the EDSP,” said Codilla.
Last year, about 335 applicants got the chance to take the exam from in the Central Visayas region. Additionally, Codilla also said that the OWWA-7 will be accepting applications for the school year 2020-2021 on April.
This year, there are about 54 slots allocated for the incoming freshmen for Region 7; 13 slots for Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor; and 15 slots for Negros Oriental.
