The Eastern Court magistrate acquits the Filipina who was accused of getting things belonging to her employer. According to the magistrate, the prosecution failed to give all the necessary evidence to prove that the defendant is indeed not guilty.
“In a situation like this, the burden of proof rests on the prosecution. Defendant, you are therefore acquitted,” says Magistrate Leona Chan.
Additionally, the confession of Thelma Damiago that she was being treated badly by her employers must be reported to the authorities.
To prove these claims, a voice recording was presented during the trial. In the voice recording, a man can be heard treating badly a woman. Damiago claims that the man’s voice belongs to her male employer.
After her acquittal was announced, Damiago told The SUN HK that she was totally relieved because she was finally cleared of all the allegations towards her. But instead of going home, the 33-year-old single mother still wanted to find another employer because she became jobless for a couple of months already.
Fortunately, the employment agency of Damiago took care of her and gave her shelter after she was released on bail.
It can be recalled that Damiago was accused by her employer of getting hotel lotion, shampoo and soap. Later, it was found out that they treated Damiago badly and created the accusations to keep her shut.
