Illegal recruiters are currently victimizing minors who aspire to work abroad, as reported by GMA News.
According to reports, these illegal recruiters make fake documents for minors and even sends them to a safehouse where they are properly taught to speak and act maturely, contrary to their age.
It was also found out that the birth certificate of their older sibling is the one being used or they just make fake documents that these minors will use to get work abroad.
One of the victims personally confessed how it is actually made.
According to Fatima, not her real name, she was asked to work in Saudi in hopes of giving a better life for her family. She was told that a monthly salary of P30,000 will be given to her.
Despite the ‘almost-no-flaws’ on the documents of Fatima, she was still intercepted at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) last May 2018 by keen airport officers.
It was also found out later on that a different name was written on her documents.
According to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), 23-years-old is the youngest age of employment for domestic helpers abroad. This is to make sure that they are mature enough, both emotionally and physically.
Just last year, about 28,000 victims of human trafficking were intercepted at NAIA by the Bureau of Immigration. 150 out of these are minors.
