To ensure fast and hassle-free replacement of HKID, nine Smart Identity Card Replacement Centres were opened in Hong Kong, according to The SUN.
These centers will be working all over Hong Kong to cater the needs of permanent Hong Kong residents, investment or study, and residents for employment. If you are one of these, you can get your card replaced at any card-replacement centers nearest you.
For the members of the Immigration Service, police officers, and labor inspectors, the Immigration Department (ImmD) has started circulating the new Hong Kong identity cards to allow them to familiarize the new feature of the card and minimize the illegal immigration as well as illegal employment in the country.
As for the members of the Executive Council, Chief Executive, and Principals Officers, they have the option of whether or not they will replace their current smart HKICs mainly to promote the newest ID system.
For the second phase, which will start from January 21 until March 30, the ImmD has arranged Hong Kong residents that are born in the years 1985 to 1986 to have their cards replaced.
The third phase will be for Hong Kong residents born in 1968 or 1969 which will happen from April 1 until June 1. For other age groups, the ImmD will just announce the dates in the coming months.
