“Pedestrian Negligence” – A Filipina domestic helper working in Hong Kong had to pay HK$300 after getting hit by a bus last year.
According to reports, Eastern Deputy Magistrate Selma Masood gave the verdict to the helper identified only as Marivic P.M, 46-years old.
The violation of the Filipina – pedestrian negligence – is the act of endangering your own life or other people’s lives while crossing the road, according to Inquirer.
The domestic helper who acquired injuries and two other bus passengers were hurt in the said road mishap. Marivic was said to be at fault because she crosses the street despite the green light still blinking.
According to Judge Masood, as per the Road Users Code, all pedestrians should avoid crossing the street if the green light is still blinking. Instead, they should wait at the pavement near the curb.
The domestic helper also denied allegations that she is using her mobile phone while crossing the street. She pointed out that doctors called her employers through the mobile phone that they took from her pouch. This proves that she is indeed not using the phone while crossing.
From HK$500, the fine of Marivic was reduced to HK$300 (approximately P2,000) due to her clean record. The Filipina was ordered to pay the amount in 7 days.
