An Overseas Filipino Worker in Kuwait is facing a case after he helped fellow OFW who was allegedly maltreated by their employer.
According to GMA News, the good Samaritan is identified as Jelamar Fuentas who works as a taxi driver in Kuwait. It seems like his good deeds didn’t bring out positive fruits because instead of praises for helped alleged maltreated OFW, he was charged for violating a certain law in Kuwait that particularly points to helping domestic helpers who are planning to escape from their legal employers.
“Mukhang ang chinarge sa kaniya is parang kidnapping. We will provide the legal assistance for him,” says Chargé d’Affaires Mohammad Noordin Lomondot.
Still, according to reports, Fuentes, who uses “Dave” on his Facebook account, got in touch with Filipino workers and in one particular chat message, it states that the OFW is planning to escape from her employer and asked Fuentes to pick her up.
The unidentified OFW also gave her address to Fuentes and even promised to pay him for the help he rendered.
Meanwhile, Fuentes is now in the custody of the Office of the Domestic Welfare Affairs. Despite the case that he is facing, he never regretted helping his fellow kababyan and thinks that he never did anything wrong as he was just helping a fellow OFW.
“Hinding-hindi talaga ako natatakot. Wala naman ako tinatago na iligal. Wala namang problema basta ‘yung kababayan natin natulungan ko lang,” says Fuentes.
