Debts are ought to be paid, no matter the circumstances you are in. However, this Filipina was tricked into a mounting debt by an older member of her employer’s family.
According to the SUN, a Filipinadomestic helper was fired by her employer because of an unpaid debt. But then, the situation is more complicated than just that.
As it turns out, an older family member of Nhe’s employer asked her to use her passport in exchange of a loan. However, the relative failed to pay the mounting debt, resulting in the Filipina being chased by the loan company to settle everything.
Nhe Nhe brought her situation to the Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong where both parties (borrower and loan collector) agreed for a monthly installment basis of paying the loan. The Philippine Consulate also promised to monitor the case.

But as one month passed by, no payments were made resulting in the debt collector calling the employer of the Filipina and asking her location.
Right then, the employer of Nhe Nhe terminated her contact and paid her salary. The Filipina domestic helper worked in their family for 10 long years.
This should serve as a lesson to all Philippine passport holders, do not let other people take advantage of that important documents, be it for lending money or any other situation.
