A traffic accident in New Territories, Hong Kong ended the life of a Filipina domestic worker last October 28.
According to reports, the 55-year-old woman was hit by a white car while crossing a street in Tai Po. She was immediately rushed to the Prince of Wales hospital but later died in the morning.
According to Virsie Tamayo from the Philippine Consulate General, they already sent the news to the family of the deceased OFW. She also has a relative working in Hong Kong.
“At about 11 p.m. last night, a private car driven by a 38-year-old man was traveling along Ting Kok Road towards Tai Mei Tuk,” according to the police statement.
“When approaching Shuen Wan Lei Uk, it reportedly knocked down the 55-year-old woman who was crossing the road,” it added.
The domestic helper acquired several injuries in the head, hips, arms, and legs and remained unconscious as she was taken to the hospital. She was declared dead around 6:56 a.m., the day after the incident.
There is currently an investigation led by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident or had any information to offer is urged to contact the investigation officers at 3661-3818 or 3661-3819,” says the police handling the case.
Filipinos abroad are requested to be extra careful to avoid similar incidents.
