Overseas Filipino Workers in Hong Kong are being warned to take care of their health as the number of cases suffering from hypertension becomes surprisingly high.
“We noticed that more Filipinos, maybe they do not have a healthy lifestyle, are stressed or developing hypertension,” says Morales.
“We also noticed the growing number of Filipinos suffering from heart attack. Sometimes, we thought that they are just dizzy. But then, they already have this disease. There are already a lot of cases… it’s so sad that others just collapse,” Morales added.
Morales reminded the Filipinos to be always careful of their health and consult the doctor if they felt something unusual.
“We have to be conscious. We think we are healthy but are not. We can only rely on our health. If we are not healthy, we will have difficulties to earn a living,” he added.
To address the health issues of OFWs, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Hong Kong is currently offering medical checkups which are free to all OFWs in their office in Wan Chai, from 9am until 4pm, Saturday to Thursday.
The medical checkups include tests for blood sugar, blood pressure, Body Mass Index, cholesterol, breast exams as well as HIV tests.
