Video of undocumented children in Sabah, Malaysia being imprisoned goes viral online.
In the video, children can be seen inside a prison cell together with their parents. They are set to be imprisoned for six months before they can return to the Philippines.
It can be recalled that just this August, Malaysia started a crackdown towards illegal immigrants in the country. According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, most Filipinos who are living illegally in Malaysia are in Sabah, a place near Sulu and Tawi-Tawi in the Philippines.
As per their records, there are estimated 470,000 Filipinos in Sabah, Malaysia and almost half of it are illegally staying in the country.
Those illegal immigrants who voluntarily submitted their selves in the Immigration Department were given an exit pass just for paying RM 400. They will not have to go through imprisonment or high penalty fees.
The DFA already saw the video which is being circulated online and they are already investigating the issue.
The video is quite alarming knowing that children who should not be treated that way are suffering. The government should act on this matter so these children can be freed and return to the Philippines to have a better living condition.
