Almost all Overseas Filipino Workers goes home to the Philippines with a bag full of ‘pasalubong’ for their loved ones. These ‘pasalubong’ is not acquired easy than you think it is. These things are from the blood, sweat, and tears of every OFW who sacrificed so much to give more for their families.
Unfortunately, these things are not always appreciated. The ‘pasalubong’ you give does not always receive a compliment. If you give them a few, they would think that you are too thrifty despite the years of working abroad. No matter what you do, they always have some bad things to say to you.
This encounter has led Raymond Lopez to write a Facebook post sharing his dismay to the people who remain ungrateful for the things you give them.
Lopez started his post saying that he is starting to get fed up in giving gift and ‘pasalubong’ for his family in the Philippines.
“Minsan, nakakadalatalagangmagbigay ng pasalubongkapagnagbabalik-bayanka, bigyanmo man sila o hidi, meron at meronsilangmasasabisayo, nakesyo ‘itolang’, ‘nagbigayka pa’, ‘kuripotnaman’, ‘yanbayung abroad’, ‘tatlong-taonsa abroad heto nay un?’”
It’s dismaying but a rather real scenario. Not everything you give gets always appreciated.
Lopez also explains that OFWs do not have the obligation to give all the relatives and friends ‘pasalubong’ because they are also working hard abroad and not just picking money on the streets.
Salute to all OFWs all over the world.
