An Overseas Filipino Worker from Kuwait was devastated as she returns to the Philippines after experiencing physical abuse from her employer.
Ruby Caduyag painfully recalls how she was maltreated by her female employer in Kuwait. She was allegedly beaten countless times and they also refused to provide enough food for her.
“I usually eat inside the room, without water. Yesterday, as I was about to leave, she pulled my hair and spat on my face,” says Caduyag.
According to Ruby, just last Friday, her employer asked her something but she failed to understand it. She asked sorry for not understanding it.
However, her employer fumed in anger and started harassing her.
“She said a lot of things to me. I was really afraid and trembling. She beat me using a plastic chair inside the room. Good thing my employer’s child came. If not, I will suffer worse than this,” says Caduyag.
Her employer’s child helped her to return to the Philippines.
Caduyag worked as a domestic helper in Kuwait for one year and two months. She tried to ask for help from her agency but they refused her.
“I will turn you over to OWWA so they can give assistance and medical treatment because what we did here is initial only,” says Danny Chua, Airport Action Officer, MIAA.
Caduyag was taken to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) where she will be given assistance before she returns to her hometown in Cagayan de Oro City.
